A mobile society
Expectations for mobile payments grow as society becomes increasingly mobile. According to a Gartner's June report, worldwide mobile transaction values will hit $235.4 billion this year, up 44% from 2012. Gartner also forecasts that the number of mobile payment users around the world will hit 245.2 million this year, up from 200.8 million. Money transfers and bill payments will account for 71% and 21% of 2013's total transaction value, respectively.
The factors that pave the way for mobile payment ubiquity are unique to financial services industry.
