WHY NOW
Overall in the credit granting/issuing industry there has been a very large contraction in the financing/credit lines that banks allow in all verticals. For now there is plenty of debt that's been charged-off by banks and is being worked on/collected in recovery or has been sold to debt buyers to collect on.
Simultaneously, congress has now passed the Dodd-Frank Finance Reform Bill that will now have a major affect on creditors and banks as a whole. There are now even more concerns being expressed due to this new reform.
On the collections front, due to so many more people in default and in foreclosure/bankruptcy, a cottage industry has sprung up dedicated to helping consumers deal with aggressive collectors.
Aside from legal issues relating to collections, top of mind for some collectors are how can they improve their techniques for collecting to have better customer service and are there new technologies available to save time and cut cost.
