Barclaycard US has tapped a longtime bank technology executive to serve as chief operating officer.

The payments business based in Wilmington, Del., said Friday it has named Patrick Wright to the post, in which he will oversee operations, technology, customer service and quality management.

Wright, who joins Barclaycard from a consulting firm he founded, served as chief executive of Wincor Nixdorf’s American arm for roughly two and a half years starting in 2008.

He previously held a series of senior roles in retail banking and technology with JPMorgan Chase over the course of 17 years with the company.

Amer Sajed, chief executive of Barclaycard US, said in a press release that Wright “has a keen understanding of technology, a strong customer focus, and a proven track record for achieving success.”

Wright will report to both Sajed and to Ian Buchanan, Barclaycard’s global chief operating officer in London. He will serve on both Barclaycard’s executive committee of global chief operating officers and the company’s U.S. executive committee.

In September, Barclaycard named Gerald "Jerry" Pavelich, a former chief financial officer at CUNA Mutual Group, as CFO, and Peggy Maher, a former head of marketing consumer and business cards at American Express, as chief marketing officer.
