JPMorgan Chase to Offer Instant-Issue Debit Cards

PaymentsSource | Monday, November 26, 2012

JPMorgan Chase plans to offer instantly issued debit cards in 2,000 branches, primarily in in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, by the end of the year.

Though its focus is initially on debit, the bank plans to also offer instant-issue cards to credit and prepaid customers.

The instant-issue cards, which are made with technology from Datacard Group, will be available for new account-holders and for existing customers seeking a replacement card. Currently, replacement cards arrive by mail.

In 2013, JPMorgan Chase plans to install instant-issue technology in 800 more branches.

"Instant-issue is a real time-saver for our customers," said Brad Nolan, the bank's head of design for branch innovation, in a press release Nov. 26. "Customers can enter their local branch, select a debit card of their choice, select a PIN, and begin using their card immediately."
