vPromos Inc. and Merchants' Choice Payment Solutions is making vPromos' vPunc  Rewards program available to more than 50,000 merchants across the country.

Merchants customize the program by determining tiers of loyalty and setting specific rewards based on purchase activity, the companies said in a press release.

Merchants register customers by entering a mobile phone number directly into the payment terminal following a transaction.

Customers opt in by replying to a text message sent to phones immediately after the transaction.

"We selected vPunch because it's a robust program that will enable merchants to achieve incremental sales through more frequent visits and higher spend levels from existing customers, as well as attract new customers," Todd Linden, Merchants' Choice executive vice president and chief operating officer, said in the release.

Merchants and consumers participate in the program without changing their behavior, the release said. Merchants accept consumers' payment just as they do today, only they add the ability to track loyalty and offer rewards in real-time.

"Our relationship with a top-ranked merchant acquirer like Merchants' Choice Payment Solutions supports our strategy to be a leading loyalty provider to resellers, merchants and consumers," said Steven Neel, vPromos chief financial officer, said in the release.
