Heartland Payment Systems Inc. is making available an emergency notification service on the campus identification card it offers. The Princeton, N.J.-based processor says educational institutions using its Campus OneCard, which is used for identification and has a prepaid-account function, can offer the Alert Notification service. ID cards using the service will have the Alert Notification telephone number printed on them that emergency responders call to alert the cardholder's contacts. Heartland will sell the service on-campus, or the education institution could include it as a standard benefit, a Heartland spokesperson says. In either case, the service also is available to faculty and staff members. Heartland signed a distribution agreement with Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Alert Notification LLC in November.
