Altair Financial Services International PLC, a United Kingdom-based payments processor and prepaid card provider, will provide card services to support the rollout of a prepaid reloading service from MasterCard Europe, both organizations said Wednesday. The scheme, called "MasterCard rePower," is designed to give customers more places to add value to their prepaid cards (CardLine Global, 9 May). MasterCard earlier this year struck a deal with Payzone PLC, an Ireland-based payment-network operator, to offer the service. Payzone's network includes about 240,000 points of service at more than 170,000 retail locations. Negotiations continue regarding how many locations will offer the service by the time UK-based Newcastle Building Society issues the first rePower-capable cards, a move scheduled for spring 2009, a MasterCard spokesperson tells CardLine Global.
