America First Credit Union introduced a mobile app this month that allows its Visa cardholders to personalize their debit or credit cards with photos they've uploaded from their smartphones.

Members can then share their card images on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or other social media sites — a new feature of the Picture Perfect Visa card customization program, said James Dickson, project manager for the $6 billion-asset credit union and assistant manager of its Visa department.

The credit union introduced the new feature in the beginning of October and already has "several hundred" of its more than 618,000 members using it so far, said Dickson.

To support the social media sharing aspect, the credit union partnered with London-based technology vendor and digital card designer Serverside Group. America First was the second U.S. financial institution to introduce Serverside's customized cards in 2005, and it is the first to tie the program to social media, according to Dickson.

America First's Visa cardholders can customize their cards from their online banking accounts.

"We're very excited that we can now offer our members the ability to create their own distinctive Visa credit and debit cards, and then share what they've created with their friends through a variety of social media platforms," said John Lund, president of America First, in a press release.
