Commuters who spend time in Austin, Texas, may find it simpler to locate and pay for parking in the state’s capital city.
On Track Innovations Ltd. will provide the city with its EasyPark electronic parking management and payment system, the Iselin, N.J.-based contactless payment technology provider announced April 9.
Austin represents the first U.S. city to offer EasyPark to drivers after choosing OTI America Inc., a unit of OTI Ltd., to install the system, OTI stated in a press release.
EasyPark operates with an in-vehicle device that communicates with supporting information systems to provide data for both drivers and parking authorities, the press released stated.
The system eliminates the need for drivers to search for a parking space, look for coins to place in a meter, or leave a paper receipt on a dashboard, the company said. The press release did not provide specific details about the technology or how the municipality processes the parking payments.
In February, OTI conducted its first U.S. EasyPark installment at the University of California, Davis campus, the release added.
OTI cites Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in Israel, as well as Turin in Italy as being among the more than 125 municipalities worldwide using the EasyPark system.
“We are excited to bring the EasyPark system to a major U.S. metropolitan area and expand upon existing programs,” Oded Bashan, OTI chairman and CEO, stated in the release.
OTI has sold more than 1 million EasyPark in-vehicle devices, Bashan added. The company did not provide information about the price of the devices, and the release did not indicate when OTI would begin offering EasyPark in Austin.
