Australian banks have issued an alert to consumers after a Web site posted thousands of credit card numbers, expiration dates, verfication codes and other information, according to press reports and comments made to CardLine Global. The information included financial details for Australian bank employees. Authorities have forced the removal of the Web site, a spokesperson for the Australian arm of Visa Inc. tells CardLine Global. "The relevant card-issuing financial institutions have been notified of the impacted account numbers so they can take action," the Visa spokesperson adds. A spokesperson for Australia-based Commonwealth Bank tells CardLine Global the financial insitution knows of no fraud stemming from card data taken from the Web site and says about 350 card numbers on the site were inactive. Likewise, a spokesperson for ANZ, another Australia-based bank, tells CardLine Global the "vast majority" of card numbers on the site were inactive.
