Motorists in Bahrain soon will have a new way to pay for their fuel thanks to one of the country’s largest fuel retailers, which launched a smart prepaid card May 14.

Bahrain Petroleum Co. is issuing the Sadeem Card to provide more convenience to its customers and move to a smoother payment system, a spokesperson for the Manama-based fuel retailer tells PaymentsSource.

The Sadeem card provides a high level of security and a quicker and more convenient method of payment for fuel than credit cards, he says.

Consumers may reload their prepaid card accounts at any of the retailer’s fuel stations for free. The closed loop card is not usable anywhere but at the retailer for fuel purchases.

The retailer also is making a postpaid variant of the card available for corporate customers. Postpaid cardholders would pay under a monthly billing plan in which the client company must pay the entire amount back, much like a charge card.

“Sadeem postpaid cards would only be offered to high-volume corporate and fleet customers at certain conditions,” the spokesperson says.
