Bango, a payment technology company in the U.K., has released its direct operator billing system to some digital merchants.

The payment platform allows consumers to buy digital content, including apps and games, by placing charges on their mobile phone bills.

"Bango is uniquely positioned to bring app store quality payments to digital merchants," says Ray Anderson, Bango's chief executive, in a June 19 press release.

The technology, which was previously available only to major app stores, is now compatible with mobile websites and HTML5 apps. Bango's offering has been integrated with more than 130 network billing systems, including Facebook, Google Play and the Windows Phone Store.
