Bank Freedom has created a Spanish-language version of the Web site for its Bank Freedom Prepaid MasterCard, the company announced today. In the past the Irvine, Calif.-based bank has operated a bilingual Web site and has employed bilingual customer-service representatives, but the new site is its first with a Spanish-language Web address, according to the company. "There is a great need for our product, and until now we have not been able to directly reach the Spanish-speaking community in the United States," Bruce Berman, Bank Freedom CEO, says in a statement. The company plans to advertise on Spanish radio stations to promote the new Web site. Bank Freedom began selling reloadable prepaid MasterCards in February that have no activation fee and no monthly fee when cardholders load at least $500 each month via direct deposit (CardLine, 2/22). MetaBank, a subsidiary of Storm Lake, Iowa-based Meta Financial Group Inc., issues the cards. The company announced it shipped more than 44,000 prepaid cards in April (CardLine 5/23). Bank Freedom is owned by Prepaid Card Holdings Inc., which is based in Las Vegas. Bank Freedom specializes in selling prepaid cards to the underbanked market.
