BBVA has formed a partnership with Uber enabling the ride-hailing company’s drivers and delivery workers in Mexico to establish a digital BBVA debit account through Uber’s app.

Uber drivers in major cities in Mexico may apply for a digital BBVA account within Uber’s app and immediately begin to receive earnings through the linked Driver Partner debit Mastercard.

Participating drivers using BBVA's digital debit account may also access loans, discounts and reimbursements for gasoline purchases.
The move marks the first time BBVA has extended banking services to a third-party application.

“For the first time, we are offering a BBVA product that will ‘live’ in a third party’s platform. In other words, we are bringing the bank to our partner, who in turn is bringing us their drivers and delivery partners,” said Carlos Lopez-Moctezuma, BBVA’s head of open banking, in a release.
