BBVA has introduced technology that its mobile wallet users in Spain may liken to switching channels on a TV.

A new version of the BBVA Wallet provides users a remote control app to activate or disable various payment card functions.

The app allows users to control spending on each card in the mobile wallet, limit use to e-commerce, take money out of an ATM or block the cards if the phone is lost and reactive cards when it is located.

"Personalizing cards up to now never meant more than choosing a photo to decorate them," Mehmet Sezgin, head of global payments systems at BBVA, states in a May 27 press release.

"But now, BBVA's customers have the ability to set up their own cards, cancel them and modify each one to meet their needs and circumstances," Sezgin added.

BBVA Wallet has reached more than 570,000 downloads in Spain since it launched in December of 2013.

The bank plans to roll out the mobile wallet in overseas markets, including Chile, Mexico and the U.S.
