France-based Thales Group says it has completed the installation of a contactless-payment system on three Beijing subway lines. Thales worked with China-based Beikong and South Korea-based LG Electronics to install nearly 1,153 ticket readers at 50 stations and at least 39 terminals that enable riders to add value to their transit cards, Thales says in statement. A Thales spokesperson repeatedly offered to supply CardLine Global with more details about the company's involvement but could not provide the information by CardLine Global's deadline. Comments from transit officials and the other companies also were not immediately available. The new fare equipment replaces a paper-based system, Thales says in the statement.
