Blackhawk Network has completed its purchase of InteliSpend Prepaid Solutions, which will operate as a business unit of Blackhawk, a distributor of gift cards and prepaid telecom products.

The acquisition was announced in late October. InteliSpend’s prepaid programs enable businesses to offer employee rewards, expense management, promotions, sales and wellness incentives.

Blackhawk will offer its own digital products to InteliSpend’s 1,700 corporate customers. Blackhawk offers features on e-gift products that it contends aren’t accessible on physical gift cards, such as the ability to check a gift’s balance. Merchants can also send offers and reminders.

Blackhawk in 2012 launched its Gift Card Mall, creating an online e-gift network for retailers and banks. Blackhawk on Nov. 13 announced Gift Card Mall will be available on Stage Stores, a national apparel retailer. Consumers will be able to purchase prepaid cards from MasterCard, Visa, Lowes, iTunes, Applebee’s, Starbucks and Outback Steakhouse. Gift Card Mall will also offer Stage Store customers prepaid telecom products from Verizon, Tracfone, T-Mobile and Net 10.

Blackhawk is also partnering with Monitise to enable consumers to purchase gift cards through their financial institution’s mobile banking site.
