A former Google Inc. mobile wallet executive has joined the online and mobile payments provider Braintree Inc.
Aunkur Arya, a former head of value-added service partnerships for Google Wallet, will serve as general manager of mobile for Braintree, the company announced Sept. 21.
Braintree also hired Klas Bäck to serve as general manager of international and payment strategy. Bäck previously served as the vice president of strategic business development for Digital River. In addition, Bäck brings international experience from a previous role as president of Netgiro, where he helped build out more than half of PayPal's international capability, Braintree says.
The hiring of Arya, and Braintree's recent acquisition of Venmo, speaks directly to Braintree's commitment to further mobile growth.
"Mobile and international represent massive opportunities for developers, entrepreneurs and e-commerce companies and both are very significant components of Braintree's vision for the future of e-commerce," Braintree CEO Bill Ready stated in his company's blog.
"Aunkur and Klas bring many years of experience and innovation in mobile and international payments that will drive forward Braintree's vision in these areas," Ready added.
Prior to his work at Google, Arya was part of the core business team and led mobile app business development efforts at AdMob, a mobile advertising network for developers that Google acquired in 2010. It became Google's primary mobile ad platform, Ready said.
