Ctrip.com, a travel firm based in Shanghai, has signed an agreement to accept the PayPal payment service on its Web site, according to an announcement from eBay China. United States-based EBay Inc., an online-shopping Web site, owns PayPal. The move anticipates more tourism in China not only for the Summer Olympics this month but for events including the Shanghai 2010 World Expo, an eBay China spokesperson tells CardLine Global. China International Travel Service, China Travel Service and China Youth Travel Service, which are among the top three travel-service providers in China, all accept PayPal, eBay says. At least 180 million consumers around the world use PayPal, Hua Zhang, a banking analyst in the China office of United States-based Celent LLC, tells CardLine Global. Ctrip has some 15 million users, Hua adds. Immediate comment from Ctrip was unavailable. "As far as online payments go, PayPal is the best fit for a provider like Ctrip," Hua adds.
