Citibank has launched Touch ID sensor authentication for its iOS mobile banking users in Hong Kong.

Customers can choose to activate the feature when they log into the latest version of the app. Fingerprint authentication allows access to basic banking functions like viewing an account balance, transaction inquiry, money transfers and bill payments. The bank claims the Touch ID service is also the first fingerprint authentication method in Hong Kong that supports stock trading on a mobile banking platform.

“Citibank’s commitment to innovation is reflected in our ongoing investment in technology development,” Angel Ng, country business manager for Citibank Global Consumer Banking, said in a Nov. 7 news release.

Touch ID is Citi’s latest biometrics authentication offering and is available for iPhone 5s or later models. In June it launched voice biometrics authentication.

“We will continue to evolve our digital experiences to bring faster and simpler banking solutions to our clients and make their lives easier,” Angel said.
