Commonwealth Bank chief executive Ralph Norris urges lenders to share more-detailed credit records, according to a 26 June wire-service report. Norris advocates adding information concerning customers' outstanding loans to the credit-reporting system to reduce unaffordable debt among Australians, the report states. "The information is essential if we're to avoid the industry offering more credit to people who are already over-committed," Norris said. The Australia-based Commonwealth Bank could not be reached for further comment. In April, Australia's credit card debt was AU$43.6 billion (US$41.9 billion), up 18.2% from 36.9 billion a year earlier, according to the Reserve Bank of Australia. Credit card debt for April of this year increased 1.4% from AU$43 billion in March.
