More consumers believe debit card issuers offer better tools to help manage finances than do credit card issuers, a new report from Auriemma Consulting Group says. Auriemma surveyed 403 U.S. consumers online in July for its monthly Cardbeat market-research report exploring attitudes and behaviors toward credit cards. Some 33% of respondents said debit card issuers do "an excellent job" of offering their customers useful financial-management tools, while only 16% gave credit card issuers the same high mark. Some 36% of respondents said credit card issuers do "a poor job" of offering tools to help consumers manage their finances, while 18% of respondent gave the same assessment for debit card issuers. Some 49% of respondents were neutral when asked about the quality of debit card issuers' consumer finance-management tools, and 48% were neutral when asked about credit card issuers' tools. Auriemma did not ask consumers to specify which types of publications, Web sites or other financial-management tools they found most useful.
