Inmates at Garfield County Jail in Enid, Okla., can use their debit cards to bail themselves out under a three-year contract the jail recently signed with Continental Prison Systems Inc., which does business as EZ Card & Kiosk. The jail is using kiosks supplied by the company to remove the possibility of employees losing or stealing the funds. EZ Card & Kiosk deployed two kiosks in the 300-bed facility, says Frank Hofmeister, who handles new business development for the Fresno, Calif.-based company. One kiosk accepts cash deposits and issues receipts kept by both the inmates depositing the funds and the jail. Inmates also can use the kiosk to bail themselves out of jail, paying either with a debit card, credit card or cash, Hofmeister says. The company deployed a second kiosk in the visitors' area, enabling inmates' relatives and friends to deposit funds into prisoners' jail accounts, Hofmeister says.
