Convenience-store chain Sheetz Inc. and Wright Express Corp. are conducting a multicity Near Field Communication trial during which participating government and commercial fleet cardholders can make fuel purchases with mobile phones. Wright Express provides payment-processing and information-management services for fleet accounts. Vivotech Inc. is providing contactless readers and software support for the trial. More than 350 Sheetz locations in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina will participate in the test, according to a Sheetz statement. Sheetz Business Advantage fleet program members will participate in the test. Sheetz did not say how long the trail will last. Drivers can download fleet card information over-the-air into NFC-enabled mobile phones. "The goal of this field test is to enable us to better understand NFC mobile-payment technology …," Russ Lamer, Wright Express manager of emerging technologies, says in a statement. Wright Express did not respond to requests for comment by CardLine's deadline.
