Culver Franchising System Inc. has become the third retailer to support First Data Corp.’s Facebook e-Gift Application, which enables consumers to provide recipients with a code to use to redeem funds provided as a gift at 426 locations, the fast-food restaurant chain announced Nov. 8.

Consumers may access the application through Culver’s Facebook fan page or the company’s website. When using the app, the sender may select one or multiple friends to receive the funds either by adding them through Facebook or by entering their e-mail addresses. The sender selects the type of gift, enters a personal message and pays using credit or debit card information.

 Recipients receive a Facebook message, e-mail or both to alert them about the gift. The message contains the code and instructions on how to redeem the funds at the point of sale. The service is free for both the sender and recipient.

Last week, women’s specialty apparel retailer Dots LLC added the app to its Facebook page and website. Ice cream chain Cold Stone Creamery in July became the first retailer to use the app (see story).
