Danal Inc. will provide its BilltoMobile payment software to allow the mGive Foundation to accept donations through text messages.
MGive, which works with more than 500 charities in the U.S., allows its users to donate to non-profit organizations by texting their contributions. The foundation will use BilltoMobile for onboarding, authorization, charge and settlement in carrier billing, San Jose, Calif.-based Danal states in a Feb. 4 press release.
Danal says its partnerships and direct integrations with the top carriers enable it to support the requirements that allow donors pay for donations as charges on their mobile phone bills.
"This association with mGive demonstrates the natural fit of mobile payments within the mobile giving space," Jim Greenwell, president and CEO of Danal, states in the release.
Donors use short codes and keywords to initiate payments as text messages.
In the past, mGive has raised $43 million for Haitian relief and millions more through the Alicia Keys text campaign with American Idol and Keep a Child Alive, the company says.
In addition, hundreds of small and mid-size nonprofits run mGive text campaigns for a variety of causes, such as environmental conservation, healthcare access, and poverty reduction, Danal says.
