PBS A/S plans to introduce a mobile-payment service for Danish banks in 2010, a spokesperson for the Denmark-based payment processor tells CardLine Global. The service would enable consumers to make mobile payments via text messages at a lower cost than "premium rate" text messages and enable quicker settlement of mobile payments, PBS says in a statement. "In Denmark, all Danish banks have a joint ownership of PBS," the spokesperson says. "So this is a project that all are backing." Some 140 financial institutions could use the service, the spokesperson says. The service from PBS will not include Near Field Communication-enabled payments, which enable mobile phones to conduct contactless payments at the point of sale. "We have no current market experience with NFC," the spokesperson says.
