JCB International and DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd. recently signed an agreement that enables JCB’s customers to use their credit cards at DBS’s merchants in Hong Kong and Macao. JCB issues both magnetic stripe and chip cards.

“JCB cards can be used at DBS’s merchants in Singapore as well as outside of Hong Kong and Macao,” Yoko Shinomiya, a JCB spokesperson, tells PaymentsSource. “The service in Singapore kicked off in January this year under an agreement with DBS’s parent bank in Singapore.”

DBS will continue to expand JCB card acceptance to other areas, but no specific plans have been worked out, Shinomiya says.

More than 7.7 million merchants outside of Japan accept JCB cards under agreements with more than 250 banks and financial institutions globally, says Shinomiya. In Asia, for example, JCB’s partners include HSBC Ltd. in Hong Kong, Seoul-based Lotte Card Co. Ltd in South Korea and 11 banks in mainland China.
