Financial institutions that belong to Lokale Pengeinstitutter, The Association of Local Banks in Denmark, plan to switch their combined portfolios of ATM and debit cards to debit MasterCards, a spokesperson for MasterCard Europe tells CardLine Global. The migration will start in 2010. One reason the banks are moving to debit MasterCard is because they are more widely accepted abroad and by online merchants, the association says in a statement. The group includes about 100 local banks, savings banks and cooperative banks in Denmark, The Faroe Islands and Greenland. Details about the size of the combined card portfolios were not immediately available.
