Discover becomes an early adopter of Apple's Face ID
Discover cardholders and Discover Bank members who own an iPhone X can now use Face ID biometrics to sign onto the Discover mobile app.
The move comes only two months after Discover, which previously plugged into Apple Pay, announced that cardholders could redeem their Cashback Bonus balances through the mobile payment system. At that time, Discover said it was the first major credit card issuer to offer the ability to redeem rewards this way.
“The ease and security Face ID offers to our app users is an extension of our overall commitment to providing the best possible customer experience, whether that’s through our mobile app, by phone or on the web,” Szabolcs Paldy, vice president of e-business for Discover, said in a Thursday press release.
“Face ID provides Discover customers with an added security convenience at sign-in that requires no more than a quick glance at their iPhone X,” Paldy added.
It has been four years since Discover began testing biometrics at its Riverwoods, Ill.-based headquarters, but no significant advancements or Discover branded technology has resulted.
