Discover plans to join American Express, MasterCard and Visa in the Apple Pay service, enabling storage of Discover cards in Passbook.
Discover announced the move in tweets that were reported by 9to5mac.
Apple on Sept 9 announced Apple Pay, a mobile payment system that will be included in upcoming versions of Apple's smartphones and smartwatch. In its announcement and on its website, Apple omits Discover in the list of participating card networks.
Apple has also signed agreements with the six largest card-issuing banks and merchants including Macy's Bloomingdale's Walgreens, Duane Reade, Staples, Subway, McDonald's, Whole Foods and Apple's own retail stores.
