Dunkin’ Donuts adds Masterpass, doubling up on digital wallets
Dunkin’ Donuts has added Masterpass as a payment method within its mobile app, giving consumers more options for streamlined checkout.
The Canton, Mass.-based fast-food giant now supports the Masterpass digital wallet from Mastercard to purchase or reload virtual Dunkin’ Donuts cards on the company’s website and in its app, Dunkin’ said in a Thursday press release.
With this move, Dunkin’ goes a step beyond Starbucks in one respect by offering both of the largest card networks' digital wallets within its app. Dunkin’ added Visa Checkout as an in-app payment option two years ago. It also supports Apple Pay for one-click checkout within the app.
Starbucks offers customers more choices for streamlined payments within its mobile app, but only one digital wallet from a card network. Customers can pay within the Starbucks mobile app via Visa Checkout, Apple Pay, PayPal or Chase Pay.
Masterpass and Visa Checkout each support all payment cards, enabling consumers who have registered with either digital wallet to pay or reload within the app with just a few clicks.
“Leveraging new digital payment options like Masterpass by Mastercard provides guests with another quick and convenient way to run on Dunkin’ through our mobile app, and helps us continue to stand apart for an unsurpassed in-store experience,” Scott Hudler, Dunkin’s chief digital officer, said in the release.
