Temporary payment terminals installed by China UnionPay in the city of Dujiangyan after the 12 May earthquake have enabled victims and soldiers to withdraw more than 100,000 yuan (US$14,400 or 9,200 euros), the payment network has announced. UnionPay late last month announced it would deploy temporary ATMs and point-of-sale terminals at stores established to serve residents in the earthquake-ravaged region of Sichuan (CardLine Global, 28 May). Cardholders in Dujiangyan have made more than 341 transactions with the temporary terminals. Most of the transactions involved consumers adding value to prepaid mobile phones.
