Prepaid card processor eCommLink Inc. on April 22 announced a program to assist companies in selling and distributing their own general-purpose reloadable prepaid debit cards. The program will enable companies to get started offering cards within two months.
ECommLink designed the Market Ready program for companies that lack the time and resources to establish a prepaid payment card program, Vicente Mota, the Las Vegas-based processor’s senior vice president of sales, tells PaymentsSource. The company at first will target prepaid phone card providers that service independent convenience stores. The cards will be sold off a display rack with other cards.
Participants in the program may choose to offer either a cobranded Visa card or a regular Visa card, which ECommLink has yet to give a name. Palm Desert (Calif.) National Bank issues the cards.
Blue Casa Inc., an Artesia, Calif.-based home landline phone company that targets Hispanics, will be one of the first companies to use the program, according to Mota. Blue Casa will offer a cobranded card and will provide a 10% discount for customers who use it to pay their reoccurring monthly bills, Mota says.
