Euronet Worldwide Inc., which conducts about 75% of its operations outside the United States, last week reported fourth-quarter revenue of $285.6 million, up 11.7% from $255.7 million during the same period in 2008. Revenue for the year totaled $1.03 billion, down 1.9% from $1.05 billion in 2008.

Net income for the quarter was $8.2 million; the Leawood, Kan.-based electronic-payments processor reported a net loss of $192.7 million a year earlier. Net income for the year was $30.4 million, which compares with a net loss of $193.5 million in 2008.

Transactions processed during the quarter totaled 395.8 million, up 4.8% from 377.7 million a year earlier. The company processed 1.5 billion transactions last year, up 7.1% from 1.4 billion during all of 2008.

Fluctuations in foreign-currency valuations unfavorably impacted the fourth quarter and yearly results, the company said.

The EFT processing segment reported fourth-quarter revenue of $55 million, up 9.3% from $50.3 million a year earlier. Full-year revenues totaled $197.7 million, down, 3.7% from $205.3 million in 2008. The segment processed 187 million transactions during the quarter, up 5.4% from 177.5 million. For the full year it processed 703 million transactions, up 4.6% from 672.2 million in 2008.

The Prepaid segment reported fourth-quarter revenue of $168.7 million, up 16% from $145.4 million. Full-year revenue was $602 million, down 1.2 from $609.1 million in 2008. It processed 204.2 million transactions during the quarter, up 4.2% from 195.9 million. For the full year, the segment processed 777.1 million transactions, up 9% from 713.1 million in 2008.

Euronet’s Money Transfer segment reported fourth-quarter revenue of $61.9 million, up 3.2% from $60 million. Revenue for the year was $233 million, up 0.7% from $231.3 million in 2008. It processed 4.6 million funds transfers during the quarter, up 7% from 4.3 million. Funds transfers processed for the year totaled 17.6 million, up 5.4% from 16.7 million in 2008.
