Retail and consumer financial services veteran Jane J. Thompson has become a member of the VeriFone Systems Inc. board of directors, the terminal manufacturer announced March 26.
Thompson takes a seat vacated by Richard A. McGinn, who had served as interim CEO in March of 2013 when Doug Bergeron stepped down. McGinn also is a past chairman of the VeriFone board.
Thompson is a former president of Walmart Financial Services and former executive vice president of Sears Credit and Home Services. She was named American Banker Magazine's Innovator of the Year in 2011 and previously was recognized as one of the 25 Most Post Powerful Women in Finance.
Thompson has also served as partner at McKinsey & Co., and in brand management and marketing at Procter & Gamble. She is a member of the board for The Fresh Market and former board member of ConAgra Foods.
Most recently, as a strategic consultant, Thompson helped drive strategy and growth for large corporations as well as small, fast-growth businesses, VeriFone says.
"I'm very pleased to have Jane join our board," says VeriFone CEO Paul Galant, who joined the company October 1. "She is an expert on the evolving relationship between retailers and consumers and her experience will help us achieve our goal of enabling the next generation of commerce for our clients."
While welcoming Thompson to the VeriFone fold, executives also had praise for the departing McGinn.
"The board thanks Rich for his service in many roles over the years including interim CEO and chairman of the board, and we wish him well," Dr. Leslie Denend, chairman of the board, states in the release.
