First Data Corp. has added technology from Perka, its customer loyalty subsidiary, to its Clover Station point of sale tablets.
The Perka app uses location tracking to administer customer loyalty programs. Shoppers can redeem rewards and incentives by checking in at a merchant's location. The merchant, in turn, uses the app to validate the customer's purchases.
"Loyalty programs are an effective method to increase sales and build a stronger base of regular customers," says Guy Chiarello, president of First Data, in July 15 press release. "With Perka, we are adding valuable functionality to First Data's SMB offerings."
First Data has been steadily adding to the capabilities of its Clover subsidiary. Last month, Clover partnered with DropThought to enable consumers to provide feedback to merchants on the Clover tablet's screen or through a link in a digital or printed receipt. In April, First Data added analytics and data security tools and Gyft digital gift cards to Clover.
First Data acquired Perka in October for an undisclosed sum. First Data, of Atlanta, is a unit of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
