About a fourth of First Data Corp.'s 800 call center employees will be laid off by Sept. 1, according to the transaction processing giant.

The move follows other First Data layoffs as the company continues its restructuring following the 2007 takeover by private equity giant Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

In March 2009, the company laid off about 1% of its 850 employees from the local center and 270 throughout the company.

In 2008, it laid off about 500 employees throughout the organization. In November 2007, it terminated about 6%, or 1,600, employees company wide.
