Police are warning haulage companies to be alert after thieves stole £8,000 of diesel using a fuel card.
The cards, distributed to lorry drivers through their firms, are used with a pin number to buy fuel on their company account.
Following two incidents in the Cotswolds where lorry compounds where broken into, stolen cards have been used to buy fuel.
Officers are now stressing the importance of precautions.
Detective Sergeant David Doherty said: "Many thieves will rob premises over the weekend and if they uncover the pin number at the same time, begin to use them before the theft is uncovered.
"Please make sure not to write the pin number on the card itself or anything close."
