German payments processor B&S Card Service GmbH plans to implement Payware TCS, a software-management component of VeriFone System Inc.’s Paymedia Universal Acceptance Platform, to manage applications centrally on merchant payment terminals, VeriFone announced Feb. 28.

B&S Card Service transacts and processes credit card payments and e-commerce and mail-order transactions. In addition, the company processes mobile payments for debit and fleet/fuel cards in the transportation industry.

Payware TCS enables network service providers to manage payment functions remotely at merchant locations equipped with VeriFone’s Artema Hybrid and H5000 terminals. Payware provides a process to deploy new applications and update existing ones, including the future management of Near Field Communication applications at merchant sites, San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone stated in a press release.

“VeriFone’s Payware TCS provides B&S with the ability to better manage our large installed base of VeriFone payment systems and realize a lower total cost for the merchants,” Matthias Kaufmann, B&S CEO, said in the release.

The system will allow B&S to track applications running on merchant payment systems and to deploy new software and updates centrally on the B&S server, Kaufmann added.

Based on European standards, Payware allows multinational retailers to coordinate their payment systems in multiple countries to be ready for the Single Euro Payment Area in Europe, the press release stated.

VeriFone deploys Payware on the Artema Hybrid systems without requiring hardware upgrades in the field. VeriFone added the Artema Hybrid, a widely used terminal in Germany, to its terminal portfolio after completing its acquisition of most of Hypercom Corp.’s non-U.S. operations last August (see story).
