Global Payments Inc. is expanding into the Philippines with its HomeCurrencyPay product. The addition is the latest in Global Payments’ expanding Asian services.
Global Payments Asia-Pacific Ltd., the Atlanta-based processor’s Asian joint venture with HSBC Holdings PLC, is the first merchant acquirer to launch the currency-conversion service in the Philippines, according to Global Payments, which already has introduced the product in China, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Malaysia and Taiwan.
With HomeCurrencyPay, international customers can choose to pay at merchant locations in the currency of their home country or the currency of the country they are visiting using their Visa Inc. or MasterCard Worldwide payment cards. The currency conversion takes place at the point of sale.
Global Payments plans to introduce the product into additional unnamed countries, a spokesperson tells PaymentsSource. “As with all other Global products, we will regionalize it and make it available to more merchants across the region,” says the spokesperson, noting product feedback from merchants has been “very positive.”
Global Payments Asia-Pacific also this month added the ability to accept China UnionPay cards in the Philippines, Brunei, the Maldives, Singapore and Sri Lanka. It also offers China UnionPay card acceptance in Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Taiwan.
