The processor Global Payments Inc. now allows merchants to accept donations at the point of sale through an agreement with Digital Processing Solutions.
The agreement enables clients of the Atlanta-based processor to use the Digital Donations interactive POS fundraising and marketing software, which automates the giving process through donation requests, collection and payment to charities.
Participating merchants can support U.S.-based nonprofit organizations that have contracts with Digital Processing, the companies stated in a press release this week.
"This new agreement furthers our strategy of joining forces with payment processors who have sizeable merchant portfolios and sales distribution channels," Keith Orlean, president of Digital Processing Solutions, states in the release. "We believe that our technology will provide many of these merchants with an opportunity to easily develop and deploy cause-marketing campaigns through their existing payment terminals."
Melville, N.Y.-based Digital Donations operates through retail POS terminals, smartphones, online shopping carts, ATMs, informational kiosks and video-on-demand systems used in the hospitality industry, it says.
Consumers using smartphones could use the text-to-donate option through Digital Donations' proximity text-based cause marketing, the company says. Text-to-donate is an increasingly common tool during and after natural disasters.
