Google Inc. said its holiday promotion tool can increase merchants' online sales by 209%.

Merchants who accept payments through Google's Checkout system saw that much improvement when they used the holiday promotional tool last year, Google said on its Checkout blog Nov. 2. Those that did not use the tool saw a 25% rise, Google said.

From Nov. 23 to Dec. 15, Google replaces the regular Checkout icon on a merchant's website with a holiday-themed one, when merchants sign up to offer promotional discounts that are automatically applied when shoppers pay through Checkout.
