Green Dot has hired a PayPal executive to become general manager of its mobile bank account, known as GoBank.
Joshua Goines most recently headed PayPal's efforts to expand its offline retail business, Green Dot said in a June 12 news release. Earlier, Goines served as chief financial officer of Tempo Payments Inc., a pioneer in store-branded debit cards.
"Josh has an impressive professional background with a strong track record of success in establishing and growing innovative payments and mobile technology businesses," Green Dot's chief revenue officer, Kostas Sgoutas, said in the release.
Goines is the second high-ranking executive at eBay-owned PayPal to leave this week. On Monday,Facebook announced that it was hiring PayPal president David Marcus.
GoBank, which Green Dot launched a year ago, is a mobile phone-based bank account with no overdraft fees or minimum balance requirements. Green Dot allows customers to choose what they want to pay from $0 to $9 per month to use the account.
GoBank competes against similar offerings from Simple and Moven. It's designed to appeal to a more upscale, tech-savvy segment of consumers than Green Dot's prepaid cards do.
Sangeen Zeb, who previously served as general manager of GoBank, left Pasadena, Calif.-based Green Dot last year, according to his LinkedIn profile. Zeb is currently a senior associate at Centerview Capital.
