A group of major online and technology companies has established the Information Card Foundation to promote the development of Internet-enabled digital identities using what it calls information cards, which would be similar to electronic wallets and include such data as credit or debit card and driver's license information. Paul Trevithick, foundation chairman, tells CardLine the goal is to have an online wallet that is similar to an actual wallet in which consumers could choose the payment card or identification information needed to complete a transaction or verify their identity. Google Inc., Microsoft Corp. and PayPal Inc. are among the companies that are part of the foundation.
