HotelTonight is the newest company in a growing trend of payment players to provide an eGifting service for its users, especially through mobile devices.
Users of the hotel deals app can encourage friends and family to travel by sending credits for payments within the app. Companies such as Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts also allow users to buy digital gift cards through their mobile apps.
The credits could be used to fund a part of a large trip, such as a honeymoon for newlyweds, without committing the recipient to a time or destination. Credit is purchased through the “HT Swag Shop” within the app. After users purchase the credits, the promo code can be forwarded to the recipient.
Along with the eGifting service, HotelTonight announced its expansion into continental Europe, with deals in Amsterdam, Paris, Nice and Brussels. HotelTonight also added French, Italian, Spanish and German language capabilities.
“One of the things we hear most from HT fans is that they want us to be everywhere,” says Sam Shank, HotelTonight CEO in a press release. “Localizing the app is a huge step in getting us there.”
HotelTonight currently offers listings in more than 70 markets. The app has been downloaded 3.7 million times since its inception in 2010.
