ID Tech, a supplier of point-of-sale devices, has agreed to begin outfitting its SecureMag readers with TransArmor data encryption and tokenization from First Data Corp.
Atlanta-based First Data's technology assigns a random number to each card used in a transaction, the companies noted in an Aug. 16 press release.
"Aligning our products with the leading encryption technology from First Data will be a big benefit to our channels and partners," George Jiang, vice president of Engineering for Cypress, Calif.-based ID Tech, said in the release.
The technology protects consumers and merchants from potentially catastrophic data theft and fraud, Tim Horton, First Data's vice president of merchant product management, said in the release.
"With more than 300,000 merchants securely processing transactions with the TransArmor solution, it is the most widely deployed payment security service in the industry," Horton says.
SecureMag, a 100mm magnetic stripe card reader, offers retailers complete and reliable security, according to the release. Users select the security level appropriate to the application.
