State Bank of India, which recently purchased 1,000 ATMs from Wincor Nixdorf AG, will deploy the machines throughout India, beginning in Mumbai and New Delhi, Matthew Kovac, a Wincor Nixdorf spokesperson, wrote ATM&Debit News in an e-mail message. Mumbai-based State Bank of India purchased 700 ProCash1500xe cash dispensers and 300 ProCash 2100xe multifunctional ATMs, Kovac says.
The 2100xe processes passbook accounts, counts coins and accepts bank note and check deposits, but so far the bank has not indicated which functions it immediately will use, Kovac says. Wincor Nixdorf announced on Sept. 16 that it had secured the contract through AGS Infotech, its Mumbai-based business partner. This is Paderborn, Germany-based Wincor Nixdorf's first contract with State Bank of India, which is expanding its ATM network through the purchase of new ATMs and replacement of older models. "SBI plans to install 10,000 new ATMs in 2009/2010," Kovac wrote. "If you factor in replacement for old systems, then for this one bank alone, it is a huge opportunity."
