Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. has signed a partnership agreement with Mumbai-based Union Bank of India to launch a bill-payment and mobile top-up service in India, a spokesperson for the Delhi-based telecommunication operator tells PaymentsSource.
The service will enable Union Bank customers to conduct the transactions through their Bharat Sanchar mobile phones and at the bank’s ATMs, according to the official. The service will be free.
“The bank’s accountholders, after registering their mobile numbers through a mobile application can pay their [Bharat Sanchar] bills using the mobile phone,” he says. ”Similarly, customers can top up their prepaid mobiles as well.”
Consumers need not register to pay Bharat Sanchar bills from the bank’s ATMs. “The customer can use his bank debit card to make the payment at any of the bank’s ATMs, and get a receipt for it,” the spokesperson says. “He can do the same for recharging his [Bharat Sanchar] mobile.”
The bank operates approximately 1,000 ATMs in the country.
Bharat Sanchar customers historically have had the ability to pay their mobile bills through Bharat Sanchar outlets, the telco’s website, post offices and at select banks.
