Indonesian online payments company KinerjaPay has opened a gift card center enabling consumers to purchase gift cards with bitcoin from major U.S. merchants including Amazon, Starbucks and Barnes & Noble.

Consumers may buy gift cards in denominations of $10 to $100 by using their KinerjaPay account balance or a linked account on the bitcoin exchange, the Jakarta-based company said Tuesday.

KinerjaPay offers electronic versions of gift cards send by email or it will ship a physical card free to any U.S. buyer; consumers in other regions buying a physical gift card from KinerjaPay must pay a shipping charge, the company said in a press release.

“The gift card market is thriving in Indonesia and around the world. … In addition to providing a valuable service to our existing account holders," the gift card launch "also offers bitcoin owners the opportunity to use the digital currency on an established e-commerce platform,” Edwin Ng, KinerjaPay’s CEO, said in the release.
